Mark Zandi, Chief Economist at Moody’s Analytics and co-host of the podcast Inside Economics, shares his insider take on the economy and real estate market looking forward into 2024.
I closed out last year with an episode featuring Mike Van Konynenburg from Eastdil Secured and Chris Hartung, who forecast the difficult year for real estate investing we had in 2023. We are certainly headed into more challenges in 2024, which Mark makes no bones about. The repricing of commercial real estate and the secular change in the office market will continue to provide significant challenges to our industry with some risks to the overall economy. But Mark is "giddy" reading the performance of the overall economy and the likelihood of achieving a soft landing.
Mark and I sat down to record this episode before the holidays on December 12, just days before the meeting where the Fed announced a changed direction. Mark’s valuable look forward offers highlights for real estate companies to strategize on for a successful 2024 and into longer term drivers for the next cycle for our asset class.
