Position Summary: 

The Head of A&R is the senior executive responsible for setting and executing the company’s overall A&R vision, strategy, and performance standards. This role leads and mentors A&R teams across offices (Nashville & LA), fostering a culture of creative excellence, accountability, and long-term talent development. The Head of A&R owns high-stakes dealmaking and core creative relationships, oversees signings from initial discovery through sustained commercial and artistic success, and ensures an exceptional and supportive experience for writers and producers.

Serving as a central connector across the organization, the Head of A&R partners closely with Creative, Business Affairs, Finance, PR, and the Executive team to align creative priorities with business objectives. Equally fluent in the studio, in detailed royalty and catalog reviews, and in board-level discussions, this leader balances creative intuition with commercial rigor, translating artistic vision into durable enterprise value.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Dealmaking & Writer Catalog Management

  • Discuss, structure, negotiate, and execute publishing deals, owning key deal points and partnering closely with Business Affairs and Finance for approval.
  • Lead meetings with prospective signings, clearly articulating the company’s creative vision, track record, and growth story to convert high-potential talent.
  • Oversee the full Nashville writer roster, supporting high-level session strategy, pitching, and relationship management.
  • Resolve complex split disputes and maintain fair, timely outcomes that protect relationships and catalog value.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor the A&R team in Nashville and company-wide, in partnership with the Head of A&R (West Coast), establishing clear standards for scouting, development, pitching cadence, and reporting.
  • Run internal A&R meetings, reviews, and planning, fostering a culture of feedback, creative rigor, and transparent communication.
  • Partner on hiring strategy and interview pipelines for A&R and studio/creative roles, ensuring onboarding is structured for immediate impact.  

Executive Communication & Governance

  • Maintain a tight operating rhythm with the President/Founder across deal approvals, financial signoffs, and key Nashville updates.
  • Participate in executive meetings and royalty reviews, translating insights into clear priorities and next actions for A&R teams and writers.
  • Coordinate with PR/Comms on priority narratives, releases, and key moments for writers and the company brand.

Financial Stewardship & Operations

  • Approve Nashville A&R expenses, travel, PTO, and staffing logistics in alignment with Finance and HR policies.
  • Own Nashville A&R operations, including office calendar, meeting cadence, vendor and partner coordination, and studio oversight.
  • Manage project budgets (e.g., recording costs) and contractor/engineer hours, ensuring accurate tracking, timely approvals, and cost discipline.

Creative Strategy & Market Development

  • Build and scale relationships with high-level executives, managers, and creatives in Nashville and globally.
  • Maintain a forward-looking creative pipeline, identifying priority writers, producers, and collaborators while driving high-impact sessions and cuts.
  • Travel regularly to Los Angeles to support writer development, staff collaboration, and long-term relationship building.  

What Success Looks Like (12–18 months)

  • High-quality signings and re-signs with clear creative theses and measurable momentum (cuts, holds, syncs).
  • Reduced cycle times from interest → term sheet → execution; clean handoffs to BA/Finance/Operations.
  • Healthy roster growth and retention; timely, equitable split resolutions; robust co-write ecosystem.
  • Clear reporting cadence and partnership with Exec/Finance on royalties, P&L, and catalog performance.
  • Strong A&R team performance: hiring, mentorship, playbooks, and consistent creative output.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Deep, trusted network in Nashville and key major markets, with strong relationships across writers, managers, producers, and executives.
  • Expert understanding of publishing deal structures (e.g., admin vs. co-pub, MDRC, options, escalations, splits).
  • Highly fluent in royalty mechanics and statement analysis, with strong data literacy across streaming, charts, and market analytics.
  • Proven people leader with experience hiring, coaching, performance management, and influencing cross-functional partners.
  • Organized and decisive under pressure, demonstrating excellent judgment, discretion, and written and verbal communication.
  • Embody a service-oriented work ethic with a heavy emphasis on friendly, clear, and transparent communication skills to unify internal and external partners
  • Creatively driven and energized by collaborative, team-based environments.
  • Comfortable with industry-standard tools including Songspace/Disco, Chartmetric/ROSTR, PRO and MLC portals, G Suite/Microsoft 365, and Slack/Teams.

Background Qualifications:

  • 8–12+ years in A&R within music publishing (required) with a proven track record of impactful signings and catalog results.

  • Competitive base, discretionary bonus, A&R bonus plan, and benefits.
