The Grizzlies have consistently invested in and developed a vibrant, sustainable and engaged organization, which also includes the operations of FedEx Forum, the Memphis Hustle (G League), and Grind City Media. The team is an integral part of the Memphis community and its leadership plays an active and meaningful role in representing the team and giving back to the city.

Position Summary: 

The Senior Vice President of Business Administration serves as an organizational leader and a key member of the executive team driving operational excellence within the business and strengthening the spine of the organization.  

The Senior Vice President of Business Administration is responsible for proactive management and oversight across multiple core departments and critical functions including:  financial operations, business intelligence, human resources, information technology, and operational compliance and risk management. Further key responsibilities include the assessment and implementation of cross-departmental operational initiatives, and the development and deployment of systems, processes and tools necessary to improve the administration of the business, elevate outcomes, and drive results. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Operational Excellence 

  • Design and implement efficient policies, systems and workflows to optimize operational performance and ensure seamless day-to-day administration of the business across all departments.  

  • Work with the Vice President, Finance to ensure sound financial management practices, accuracy, compliance, thoughtful analysis, and accountability.  Foster collaboration between Finance and other departments to align financial goals with operational objectives to improve the organization’s financial performance. 

  • Work with the VP, People & Culture to enhance HR strategy, operations and policy, and streamline processes and procedures. Optimize talent acquisition and management, workforce development, compensation, and implementation of benefits. Build staff rapport with HR with thoughtful engagement and outstanding customer service. Maintain a diverse and inclusive environment.  

  • Develop the business intelligence capabilities of the organization by harnessing data, building effective reporting, conducting meaningful analysis, and promoting an insights-driven organizational culture across all business units. 

  • In partnership with Senior Director of Enterprise Technology, evolve the organization’s enterprise technology approach to enhance operational efficiency and improve the user experience, align with strategy, work seamlessly across teams, and help drive a culture of continuous improvement.  

  • In partnership with the Senior Director of Network Infrastructure, lead the strategy, implementation and oversight of the organization’s network systems. Ensure all infrastructure is secure, scalable, and reliable, while aligning technology resources to support business needs and security standards.  

  • Evaluate existing business administrative systems and functions. Oversee their improvement and development by modifying or refreshing processes, tools or methodologies where applicable to enhance decision making, operations and overall organizational performance. 

  • Proactively manage key cross-functional business initiatives that touch multiple departments and require persistent collaboration to achieve successful fruition. 

  • Be alert and opportunistic in identifying ways to improve the functioning, operations and success of the business. 

Risk Management and Compliance 

  • Cultivate a sensibility of risk awareness across the organization, encouraging team members to be proactive in identifying and evaluating potential business, operational and compliance risks and generating prospective solutions.  

  • Oversee Finance, HR and IT operations and identify, assess, and mitigate organizational risks, ensuring operational success and business continuity, and adherence to applicable compliance requirements, guidelines and standards. 

  • Oversee the organization’s insurance portfolio, ensuring adequate coverage for risks across the organization.  

  • Ensure robust cybersecurity measures are in place to protect the company. Routinely evolve and enforce policies and protocols for physical and digital security to safeguard employees, assets, and data. 

Leadership and Team Development 

  • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, collaboration, and service.  

  • Provide guidance and support to department heads, orchestrating alignment with organizational objectives.  

  • Promote professional development opportunities to simultaneously enhance team capabilities and individual performance.  

  • Empower leaders within each functional area to make informed decisions, innovate, drive improvement and contribute to strategic initiatives.  

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field. Master’s degree preferred.  

  • 15+ years of business administration experience across finance, HR, IT, and risk management with at least 10 years in an executive role.  

  • Highly adaptable and resilient with a demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment with industry-specific challenges and opportunities.  

  • Strong business foundation with a commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of business administration.  

  • Extensive experience in cross-functional leadership, working collaboratively while cultivating accountability with diverse teams across multiple departments.  

  • Demonstrated ability to create, execute and scale operational strategies that drive organizational success with a focus on long-term growth and sustainability. 

  • Exceptional decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate complex issues, navigate ambiguity and implement effective solutions.  

  • Proven experience in improving business processes, driving cost reductions, and implementing performance enhancing strategies.  

  • Strong analytical thinking with the ability to synthesize data from various sources to guide strategic decision-making. 

  • Expertise in risk analysis, forecasting, and business modeling to identify opportunities and challenges before they arise.  

  • Familiarity with the latest digital tools and technology trends in the sports and entertainment industry, and the ability to leverage these for operational efficiency.  

  • Independent judgment and mature decision-making skills to manage programs that often have enterprise-wide scope and may have significant financial and compliance impacts.
