Deputy Athletic Director/CMO
Job Purpose:
The Deputy Athletics Director/Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) leads the strategy and operations for the following external functions within the Athletics Department: communications, branding, marketing, creative services, video production, and broadcasting. This role drives fan engagement, brand visibility, and revenue growth through strategic partnerships, ticketing, licensing, and promotional campaigns. Serving as a key department spokesperson and liaison to university leadership and corporate partners, the position oversees multi-media rights, branding agreements, and student-athlete compensation opportunities, while managing a dynamic external team and contributing to the department’s long-term strategic and financial goals. Sets a vision and leads transformational change with significant growth potential in the industry. Will be a digital- minded storyteller that builds engagement and community across varying verticals of the department including donors, season ticket holders, retail buyers, and social/digital followers. This position will lead department efforts to engage, inspire, grow, and retain the athletics department’s constituents through a wide range of digital and in-venue platforms and experiences.

Develop and implement comprehensive marketing, brand, and communications strategies that align with the South Carolina Athletics vision, mission, values, and objectives. Manage all facility branding efforts. Ensure consistent execution of the South Carolina Athletics brand identity and insist upon the highest standards for communication across all platforms and mediums. Assist in the development and growth of student-athlete brand development program.

Oversight of marketing, fan experience, communications, design, video content, broadcast, digital strategy, consumer marketing, and event presentation. Leverage consumer/fan data, metrics, and insights to help guide and develop campaign strategies, products, and messaging. Manage grassroots marketing campaigns to drive fan, student, and community attendance at both ticketed and non-ticketed events. Work with Gamecock Club leadership to coordinate and develop messaging and strategies for fundraising that maximize departmental earnings. Develop, implement, and maintain the long-term digital roadmap strategy and drive innovation across multiple verticals.

Assist in formulating and implementing communication and public relations strategies, vision, and philosophy for development and revenue generation initiatives. Lead department efforts in creating, developing, and managing community engagement.
Manage digital, design, marketing, broadcast, and feature video teams and department budgets for equipment, software, contractors, and other resources. Manage the efforts to develop and cultivate local and national media relationships to maximize coverage for the department. Direct the Marketing team in the creation of visually appealing and engaging communications. Develop strategies related to content distribution for current and former student-athletes. Oversee the broadcast team in the distribution of SEC Network and internal production broadcasts. Manage any third-party creative or advertising relationships.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Will serve as the sport administrator to assigned sport(s). Oversee departments to include Marketing and Fan Experience, Communications and Public Relations, Gamecock Sports Properties, Live Productions, New and Creative Media, and Video Services.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 5 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
MBA or masters degree preferred. Increasing marketing experience within an agency or sports-related organization. Experience managing creative, marketing, and/or digital teams.

Personnel management. Branding. Working knowledge of content production and marketing tools. Ability to build consensus and lead internal communication. Marketing strategy and processes. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate across a variety of departments. Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting established timelines. Detail-oriented and highly organized with an ability to strive under pressure while managing multiple projects simultaneously. Data-driven marketer with experience directing customer acquisition, retention, and engagement .
