Deborah Harmon, Co-Founder & CEO; Anar Chudgar, Co-President | Artemis Real Estate Partners

Debbie Harmon, Co-Founder and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Artemis, and Anar Chudgar, Co-President of Artemis, talk about finding opportunity in today’s market and the “force multiplier” effect of their investing through emerging managers.
Artemis Real Estate Partners is a $10 B AUM real estate investment manager focused on middle market real estate investments across the equity and debt risk spectrum. I recorded this episode live from their Bethesda office with Deb, while Zooming Anar in.
Debbie founded the firm at the beginning of the GFC with Penny Pritzker, seizing an opportunity in distress times to raise capital as a women-led business and then themselves an emerging manager. Both Debbie and Anar share some of the foundational principles that have helped their firm thrive through the market’s fluctuations. First, their force multiplier effect of providing capital to emerging managers, specifically companies led by women and people of color, has allowed them to lead by example and discover untapped potential. Second, their leadership approach utilizes co-heads, a collaborative model that bolsters resilience and succession planning.
One of the partnerships that we discussed on the show is Artemis’ relationship with Tammy Jones at Basis Investment Group. To hear Tammy’s story and a very consistent message about the power of enabling access to capital for minority led entrepreneurs, listen to our Leading Voices conversation with her in our archives, released back in September 2020.
If you enjoy this episode and the concept of co-heads, make sure you check out next week’s episode with First Washington President, Daniel Radek.
