Position Summary

The newly created Chief People Officer (“CPO”) role requires an entrepreneurial leader who is responsible for reimagining RockForce’s evolving people function, culture, structure, and policies. RockForce's workforce includes both a corporate employee population and a large, geographically dispersed event and operations workforce, requiring a leader who can adapt communication and people strategies across diverse employee groups. The CPO will play a key role in developing and implementing best practices and strategies that advance RockForce’s efforts to be a high-performance organization. The role requires an effective communicator who can challenge constructively, build consensus, and lead difficult conversations with empathy and conviction.

Reporting directly to the President, the Chief People Officer will serve as a thought partner and key member of the RockForce executive leadership team. The role will collaborate heavily with Operations and RockForce leaders and team members located across the United States to attract essential talent and ensure that employees are highly engaged in the mission, work, and culture. The role will provide guidance and advisory services to the organization with regards to leadership, coaching, employee engagement, employee and labor and relations, compliance, talent acquisition, development and retention, culture, compensation and benefits, payroll, onboarding, organizational design and change, organizational and performance management, and training and development. This requires a builder; someone that is consultative, solutions-oriented, and can weigh process and business outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the continued integration and evolution of RockForce's acquired businesses and any future acquisitions by establishing scalable people practices, fostering alignment across legacy companies, and creating a cohesive culture while respecting the unique strengths of each organization.
  • Build credibility and trust across all levels of an organization, from frontline workforce employees to executive leadership.
  • Assess and strengthen existing people programs, processes, and infrastructure, establishing scalable and practical systems that support organizational growth while meeting regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives, balancing the introduction of best practices with sensitivity to existing culture, business realities, and workforce dynamics.
  • Oversee the administration of key HR initiatives including but not limited to talent acquisition and onboarding programs, succession planning, labor and employee relations, compliance, performance and talent management, and training and development.
  • Design and implement foundational talent processes, including performance management, compensation administration, leadership development, workforce planning, and employee engagement programs.
  • Develop HR policies and procedures, which support business partners and ensure compliance while minimizing friction for the business.
  • Lead a team of HR professionals including those in HR Administration, Learning and Development, Payroll, Compensation and Benefits, and Labor and Employee Relations.
  • Proactively manage Talent Acquisition, including process, resource allocation, and assimilating high-potential talent across RockForce nationally.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to senior leadership team.
  • Conduct regular talent mapping exercises across the organization, creating personal development and progression plans for individuals based on their performance.
  • Oversee compensation practices and philosophy to ensure salary benchmarking and surveys are implemented on a regular basis.
  • Develop leadership capability across the organization through manager training, coaching, and education in performance management, employee relations, recruiting, engagement, and compliance.
  • Develop comprehensive approaches to employee development, retention, and onboarding by refining or creating compensation and benefits, career paths and employee development, succession planning, and learning opportunities for the needs of the organization.
  • Partner with leadership to optimize HR technology platforms and data capabilities, improving operational efficiency, workforce visibility, talent management, and reporting capabilities.
  • Respond to the HR needs of the entire organization and assist in articulating the people vision across all of RockForce.

Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; Master’s or JD preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years’ progressively responsible human resources management experience and a preference for experience managing heavy seasonal/hourly workforces across a national organization.
  • Experience helping organizations navigate growth through acquisition, integration, and organizational transformation.
  • Demonstrated capability in adapting and innovating people practices and solutions and right-sizing them for the needs of a fluid and fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization.
  • Prior experience working with labor unions is preferred; must have experience in employee relations.
  • Proven experience managing HR programs, employee relations, and workforce administration for a blended employee population, including full-time corporate staff, part-time employees, and both unionized and non-union workforces.
  • Demonstrated initiative in determining new, or modifying existing, HR policies and procedures and effectively communicating them to an organization.
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership and decision-making capability at a senior management level, in a collaborative manner.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with human resources and payroll systems, ADP, Paylocity preferred, or comparable platforms, to manage employee lifecycle processes, payroll administration, compliance reporting, and workforce data analytics.
  • Ability to communicate to leadership the short and long-term impact, specific and strategic, of HR policy and procedural updates and changes
  • In-depth knowledge of and practical application of HR disciplines including employment and labor laws (including California law), employee relations, management & leadership development, performance management, and organizational effectiveness
  • Ability to quickly adapt to and show flexibility within an ever-changing work environment by learning the culture and applying that knowledge to management and employees
  • Experience in an organization which has experienced significant growth through acquisition preferred
