Transforming global supply chain planning to enable scalable, data-driven operations
We partnered with a $7B division of a Fortune 100 life sciences company to redesign its global supply chain planning function – streamlining processes, reducing labor hours by 35%, and accelerating backorder recovery by over six months.

Issue/opportunity
A $7 billion division of a Fortune 100 life sciences company was rolling out a new advanced planning software solution as part of its digital transformation strategy. However, the organization’s existing global supply chain planning processes, roles, and systems were not equipped to support the future state. To ensure the success of the transformation and unlock the full value of the new platform, leadership required a comprehensive reimagining of its sales, inventory, and operations planning (SIOP) function—across people, processes, and technology.
Approach & outcomes
- Conducted a global organizational assessment to identify gaps in capabilities, processes, systems, and workforce alignment across the end-to-end planning function.
- Performed activity mapping and role analysis to surface non-value-added work and redundancy across global planning operations.
- Identified and recommended automation and process redesign opportunities to reduce approximately 35% of planning labor hours.
- Designed standardized tools and escalation processes to track inventory risk, improving transparency and enabling earlier intervention in potential shortages.
- Enabled faster backorder recovery, improving product availability timelines by more than six months.
- Developed a future-state organizational design to support new ways of working enabled by advanced planning technologies.
- Conducted stakeholder interviews and voice-of-the-customer sessions to ensure broad alignment and secure engagement in shaping the future operating model.Delivered a strategic roadmap to guide implementation of the redesigned planning function, balancing operational efficiency with business agility.
- Our engagement delivered a transformational shift in global supply chain planning, aligning talent, processes, and systems to support the client’s digital planning capabilities. The redesign reduced planning workload by 35%, accelerated backorder recovery, and created a scalable, efficient operating model to support growth, resiliency, and improved customer service across global markets.
