Jim Martin is a Senior Consultant and Member at ZRG The Registry, a division of ZRG’s Education, Nonprofit, and Social Impact practice. He brings extensive experience in higher education leadership, academic administration, faculty service, and thought leadership.

Jim’s career has included roles such as provost, vice president for academic affairs, professor of English, senior consultant, author, and educator, with a focus on helping higher education leaders navigate complex institutional change.

His academic leadership experience includes more than fifteen years as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Mount Ida College, where he also served as a professor of English. Earlier in his career, he taught at Suffolk University, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and Merrimack College. Jim has also taught in the Graduate Program in Higher Education at Boston College.  

He is the co-author and editor of eight books on higher education leadership and management with Johns Hopkins University Press, including works on the role of the provost, college and university mergers, and presidential transition. He has written several hundred columns for University Business magazine and is a Senior Contributor for editorial content at HigherEdJobs.

Jim holds an AB from Colby College and MDiv and PhD degrees from Boston University. He is also an ordained United Methodist minister and a longtime member of the New England United Methodist Eldercare Board of Trustees.
