Position Summary:
The primary purpose of the Associate Vice President, Patient Care & Prevention Facilities position is to direct the management and provision of all space and properties in support of the Patient Care and Prevention Facilities and Greater Houston Area Cancer Network missions of UT MD Anderson including maintenance operations, alteration,housekeeping, and repair of buildings. The AVP will Coordinate patient care and prevention facilities day-to-day operations, collaborate with Facilities Planning Design and Construction (FPDC) for major/minor project management, and direct staff to ensure compliance with joint commission code to provide safe and efficient facilities operations.
The AVP will work closely with the leadership team of the Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer for Facilities Management, Vice President, Clinical Infrastructure Development and Growth, Executive Vice President & Chief Physician Office, Executive Vice President, Chief Clinical Ops Office, Executive Vice President Cancer Network to achieve program priorities and objectives. They are responsible for general direction with broad policy guidelines and with considerable latitude for self-directed action within the department of Patient Care and Prevention Facilities. They assist the Vice President for Operations and Facilities Management in the leadership of the Division and assumes full Divisional management responsibility in the absence of the Vice President for Operations and Facilities Management or Associate Vice President for Research Education Facilities.
Essential Functions:
Environment Creation:
- Provide an environment for patients, visitors, employees, and the public that is in keeping with The Joint Commission’s Environment of Care Standards.
- Maintain public areas at a high appearance level through a program of soft renovations and furniture re-use and replacement. Serve as an active member of the Safety Committee and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Customer Service:
- Be visible and available to the clients and customers within the Patient Care Facilities. Visibility will be accomplished by conducting facility inspections, rounding, meeting with customers, attending clinical departmental meetings, and prudently using departmental funds for approved projects.
Influence:
- Be current and involved with healthcare governmental Codes and Standards while assisting with the development and application of same to ensure institutional compliance.
- Represent the institution with Code and Standard promulgating agencies.
Direct Patient Care and Prevention Facilities:
- Plans, organizes,coordinates, and directs the planning, construction, maintenance, repair, and alteration of assigned areas, including preventative maintenance and requested maintenance and repair.
- Arrange for contractual services for minor repair and remodeling projects.
- Collaborate with FPDC on minor and major capital projects.
- Oversees housekeeping and maintenance services for assigned buildings. Resolves operations and maintenance problems.
- Reviews construction plans and specifications for proposed buildings or for all major alterations in assigned areas; recommends changes as needed to ensure operations, maintenance and housekeeping services are delivered.
- Establishes procedures for the operating and maintenance of buildings and their environments.
- Partners with the UT MD Anderson Energy Management team to explore ongoing effective energy conservation initiatives.
- Responsible for periodic building and equipment inspection to ensure compliance with appearance maintenance, and safety standards in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Support Facilities Management Divisional Functions:
- Prepares recommendations for capital construction, renewal, deferred maintenance, and annual operations budgets; exercises financial compliance controls.
- Coordinates the budget preparation with direction from the Facilities Management Building Services(FMBS) team in alignment with the institutional budgeting procedures.Accountable to the Vice President and Chief Facilities Officer for Facilities Management and Executive Management for daily operations and establishing priorities for providing needed building improvements, repairs, alterations,housekeeping, and other services provided by the Facilities Management organization.
- Awareness and management of assets across their full life cycles, maximizing Uptime Elements, while leveraging the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to its fullest functionality.
- Ensures connected reliability through streamlined data/metrics in order to enable data-driven decisions that enhance operational efficiencies.
- Through subordinate managers, provides direction to tradespersons, housekeeping workers, and administrative staff.
- Hires or makes the principal recommendation on the hiring of the management and supervisory staff,completes appropriate performance reviews, and makes recommendations on promotions, salary, and other personnel matters.

Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Facility Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
Preferred Education:
- Master’s Level Degree
Preferred Certification:
- Registered Professional Engineering (P.E.) in the State of Texas (or attainable within 1 year of employment).
Experience:
- Ten (10) years of experience in facilities management in a healthcare, higher education, or research institution, including 5 years of management experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Fifteen (15) years of experience in health or academic medical center facilities management,including seven years of management experience.
