Position Summary:
The Associate Vice President & Chief Facilities Officer is the principal facilities administrator of the university. The incumbent, reporting to the Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer, provides leadership to the institutional processes associated with the planning, funding, design, construction, operation &maintenance, and leasing of University facilities. This responsibility encompasses nearly 14M square feet of buildings, 1,352 acres of grounds, a combined heat and power plant and a comprehensive underground utility infrastructure of the College Park campus, and the design and construction of capital projects at seven other University System of Maryland (USM) institutions.
Preferences:
- At least five (5) years of experience in an executive management position overseeing a facilities management organization or a major component of one.
- Thorough knowledge of design; sustainable building design and operations; utilities operation and management; human resources management, organizational development, and training; and financial management.
- Proven leader with success in complex and distributed organizations; success leading a large group of facilities professionals.
- Excellent leadership skills and experience.
- High energy, action-orientation, honesty, integrity, compassion, and perseverance.
- Demonstrated ability to build and establish credibility with all; equally able to connect with front-line workers and executives.
- Ability to grasp the bigger picture and goals of the institution and to integrate the goals fully into the facilities operation.
- Strategic thinker who creates clear communication channels, sets goals, improves efficiency, and continuously improves client satisfaction.
- Experience in change management and navigating organizational changes

Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: Fifteen (15) years of facilities, operations, construction, or maintenance experience. Eight (8) years of experience supervising or managing professional staff.
Knowledge Skills, Abilities:
- Knowledge of facilities planning, building systems, and building operations requirements.
- Knowledge of OSHA/MOSH regulations.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products and ability to use computers and be adept at using word-processing and spreadsheets.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.

Salary Range & Financial Disclosure:
