Director of Programming – Kings Theatre
Brooklyn, NY
Background
About Kings Theatre
The historic Kings Theatre reopened its doors in 2015 as one of New York’s premier performing arts venues and has established itself as a destination for large-scale live entertainment in Brooklyn. Located in the heart of Flatbush, the city-owned Theatre presents a diverse calendar spanning concerts, comedy, dance, family entertainment, talks, film screenings, and special events, while also serving as a resource for local arts groups and community organizations. Past performers have included Diana Ross, Jack White, Gabriel Iglesias, Empire of the Sun, and Mitski, reflecting the breadth of artists and entertainment presented on its stage.
Originally designed by Rapp & Rapp in 1929, Kings Theatre was one of five Loew’s “Wonder Theatres” built in New York and New Jersey. The classic 20th-century movie palace was inspired by the French Renaissance Revival style of the Palace of Versailles and the Paris Opera House and features high curved ceilings, ornate plasterwork, wood paneling, and a glazed terra-cotta ornamental façade.
With more than 3,000 seats, Kings Theatre combines the scale required for major touring entertainment with the character and intimacy of a historic venue. Its redevelopment restored the Theatre’s original architectural splendor while transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility capable of supporting a broad and evolving programming calendar. Today, the Theatre serves as both a major live entertainment destination and a cultural and economic cornerstone of the Flatbush community, contributing to Brooklyn’s vibrant and diverse arts and entertainment landscape.
