The Helbling & Associates Story
 

In 1992, Tom Helbling founded Helbling & Associates to meet the recruiting needs of construction contractors and real estate developers, focusing on the New York City metropolitan area. Throughout the 1990s, Helbling & Associates grew and expanded, taking on hospital clientele in 1998 and higher education clientele in 2000.

The firm continued to expand service offerings and diversify their client base. This broader focus included organizations with significant real estate assets and facilities management needs. By the 2010s, the firm counted healthcare systems, museums, parks, libraries, corporate entities, and 7 out of 8 Ivy League schools as clients.

Over its three decades in operation, Helbling became a leading national search firm placing professionals with construction, real estate development, and architecture firms, while also emerging as the pre-eminent practice serving institutions, nonprofit organizations, and corporations with their hiring needs in the areas of facilities operations, planning and design, capital projects, and utilities and engineering.

The practitioners at Helbling have long prided themselves on maintaining long-term relationships with high-profile, nationwide, clientele. Since becoming part of ZRG in 2023, the team can now offer expanded service offerings to those long-term clients. The collaborative spirit of ZRG has allowed the team to integrate their combined expertise with colleagues to offer search services for additional roles at those institutions.

Today, the Helbling team is embedded in ZRG’s Education and Real Estate practice groups, where they continue to bring excellence to their clients new and old.
